This Place Isn't My Home But It Is The Place That Built Me.

Image
Have you ever felt like somewhere is just too small for you? Like your personality or your being is just too big for where you are? This is how I feel about Carroll. People in my life keep trying to convince me that I should stay here. And I appreciate that they don't want me to go - well most of them, anyway.  Here's the truth of it, though. I've never felt like I can truly be me, here. This town is notorious for wanting to label people, wanting everyone to fit in their identical little redneck, conservative box. But that has never been me.  Even as a child, I resisted being labeled. I remember saying - many times - that I don't do labels. I never belonged to any of the cliques - though I did talk to people in each one. I was the weird girl that was funny, a bit crazy, a bit mysterious, and kind of scary - apparently. That last one still makes me chuckle.  I was the girl with the deliberately mismatched socks and earrings, who wore her hair long on one side and beaded ...

The Battle of Going from Mental Illness to Mental Health, Unaided

Don't mind me I'm a fuck up, a manic depressive, a loser, a best friend You might call it human So, don't mind me if I let you down 'Cause I promise I always I'm doing the best that I can Look around a little and it ain't that bad I guess it's hard to understand Life when it hits you in the face with a backhand I'm doing the best that I can Over and over getting up when I fall back  Tell me is this part of the plan?  Fuck it. Keep my head up. I'm doing the best I Don't mind me (I'm doing the best I can.)  - Don't Mind Me by Tyler Posey, released in 2023 on his album Unravel  This song can apply to many people in many situations. For me, it's the perfect explanation of what it is like being me. I've said it before and I am sure I will say it many more times in my life, most of Tyler's songs are way too relatable for me. It's like he could have written them about my life. The fact that they are all about his own life, and wh...

Saying Goodbye - The Good and The Bad

You slipped a couple of times, but it's fine "Cause if I started pointing fingers, you would see mine I don't wanna judge you You see from the side when I'm blind You're the one I'm callin' when I need a lifeline. But I don't wanna lose you Whatever weather, if it's rain or shine Whether it's pain, pleasure, good and hard times We might go 'round and 'round, but I won't back down People they come and people they go When the leaves change and the colors they show Can you hold on through the seasons Through the seasons Through every high and through every low A beautiful lie, it never gets old Can you hold on through the seasons? - Seasons by Thirty Seconds to Mars released July 2023 on their It's The End Of The World But It's A Beautiful Day  Thirty Seconds to Mars has to be one of the best Alternative groups to exist. It's hard to believe that the lead singer, Jared Leto, first won my devotion way back in 1994 as the co...

Ohio Issue 1, a Woman's right to decide, and my own story

Normally, I would post lyrics from a song or quotes from interviews that pertain to the topic of the blog, right here. But that didn't feel right for this one. Instead, I will give you the following links. The first two are about Issue 1 and the third is an article about women who have had abortions.  https://19thnews.org/2023/10/ohio-issue-1-what-to-know-abortion-amendment-november/   https://ballotpedia.org/Ohio_Issue_1,Right_to_Make_Reproductive_Decisions_Including_Abortion_Initiative(2023) https://people.com/celebrity-abortion-stories-5705723 The fact that this is even a debate and that I feel compelled to write on it, is an insult. I am deeply ashamed of every single woman that is opposed to this bill.  Let me explain.  Just like in many other states, the tyrannical Republican party decided that women were no longer worthy or intelligent enough to make decisions about their own bodies or lives. Ohio is now putting this to a vote on our November ballot. Som...

Coping, Rebuilding, and Finding That Somewhere I Belong

I wanna heal, I wanna feel What I thought was never real I wanna let go of the pain I felt so long I wanna heal, I wanna feel Like I'm close to something real I wanna find something I've wanted all along Somewhere I belong - Somewhere I Belong by Linkin Park released on their 2003 album Meteora This poor blog has been so neglected in the last couple months. Since losing my mom, it was like everything just froze. Especially me. There have been so many emotions and thoughts and everything just constantly swirling through me. My emotional and mental states have been a ridiculous roller coaster ride.  Another reason is that I feel like every time I open my mouth or put my fingers to my keyboard, it is to whine and talk about how hard the last couple of months have been. I am sure that everyone is tired of hearing about my trauma. Or reading about it. I mean, who wants to hear or read depressing stuff all the time? I hate the thought of being the girl that is constantly bringing ...

Carroll Ohio - My Paradise, My Purgatory. Healing and Moving Forward

Grew up in a small town And when the rain would fall down I'd just stare out my window Dreaming of what could be And if I'd end up happy I would pray (I would pray)  Trying hard to reach out But when I tried to speak out Felt like no one could hear me Wanted to belong here But something felt so wrong here So I would pray (I would pray) I could break away I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly I'll do what it takes til I touch the sky And I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And break away - Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson, released on her 2004 album Breakaway What a great song. So much power and pain, heart and soul packed into those 4 minutes. The emotion that Kelly puts into every word is hauntingly beautiful, heart breaking, and way too relatable. The first time I heard this song, it went straight to my soul. I felt every single word in every fiber of my being.  I have spent most of my life in this very small town. My relationship with this pl...

The Call of New York City

Central Park, East and West I will leave my mark. Pack my bags and I'll embark On a single city.  How you gonna live? What you gonna do? Nobody else is looking out for you. Who you gonna call? What you gonna say, yeah? How you gonna live? What you gonna do? Nobody else is looking out for you? - Single City, written by Michael Mott from his album Abandoned Heart released on September 15, 2017 and performed by Lauren Allred and released as a Remix Single on May 18, 2018 and performed by Matt Doyle I have loved this song for 2 years. Since first being introduced to Michael's music back in 2020, this song has ranked as one of my favorites. But it became even more special to me, several months ago, when Michael played it during one of his Instagram Lives.  If I remember correctly, Michael started the live by greeting us, as he does, and asking what we were all up to. And me - being the little social butterfly that I am - I commented that I was working on my Dystopian novel. ...
