Fandoms, Social Media, and Celebrities ... The Scary Side

"If I wanted to have the life of privacy and protection and freedom and wholeness, I knew that I wasn't going to be able to be exposed to all of the faceless, voiceless, nameless people on social media." - Andrew Garfield, March 2022, The New York Times This statement is such a powerful one. And a very sad one. Because it is way too accurate.  Just 8 years ago, I was able to enjoy real actual conversations with celebrities on Twitter. I was not active on Instagram back then, but from what I have heard, it was possible to do so there, as well.  When I say actual conversations, I mean it. I would comment on their tweet - whether it was related to whatever show or movie they were in at the time, or just about whatever was going on in the world - and they would respond. There was a back and forth of actual conversation. It was glorious.  Then, for 3 years, I was not able to spend much time on social media and I lost that contact. When I came back, the world of social media

Music and Writing and Performing, Oh My!

Where I go, When I go there No more weeping, anymore Only in and out your lips The broken wishes washing with them to shore Touch me - all silent  Baby, just tell me please,  All is forgiven Consume my wine, consume my mind I'll tell you how, when I go where I go Touch me  Just just try it.  Now, there that's it - God that's heaven I'll love your light I'll love you right We'll wander down where the sins cry - Touch Me from Spring Awakening as sung by OBC Cast Skylar Astin, Jonathan Groff, John Gallagher Jr with Lilli Cooper, Brian Johnson, Jonathan B Wright, Gideon Glick, Lea Michele, Lauren Pritchard, Phoebe Strole, and Remy Zaken How great are those lyrics?! This song is one of the most beautiful - and sexy - songs. And it comes from one of the most provocative musicals out there. The song is from the musical, Spring Awakening, which came to Broadway in 2006. This musical introduced the world ... well New York City ... to the phenomenal talents of Jonathan

Being Queer in 'The Heart of it All"

Will Truman - Anyway, you came up to me. We didn't know each other that well. And you pulled me aside and you said 'Aren't you tired, yet?' And I was tired. Tired of actually reading playboy for the articles. Tired of keeping my Bette Midler albums in Led Zepplin sleeves. You took me to clubs and introduced me to people. Made me realize what I'd been missing by not being myself. And I am thankful for that.  Jack McFarland - I also taught you how to dance without pointing all the time. Will - And I am thankful for that. Now, here's my secret. I admire you, Jack. You are more yourself than anyone else I have ever known. Jack - Will, look. I appreciate what you are trying to do. But this is different. My mother will fall apart. She's ...  Will - Jack, Jack, Jack. Aren't you tired, yet?  45 years of living in Ohio. The Buckeye State. The Birthplace of Aviation. The Heart of it All. That last one has always made me giggle. You would think that a place that ca

Social Anxiety and The Closure That May Never Come

I heard you're goin round, Playin the victim now But don't even begin feelin I'm the one to blame 'Cause you dug your own grave After all the fights and the lies, that you wanted to haunt me But that won't work any more No more, uh uh, it' over "Cause if it wasn't for all your torture I wouldn't know how to be this way now And never back down So I wanna say thank you 'Cause it makes me that much stronger Makes me work a little bit harder  So thanks for makin me a fighter - as sung by Darren Criss as Blaine, Season 3 of Glee Episode 15 Big Brother - original song by  Social Anxiety Something I understand, but never thought would be a problem I would face in my battle with my Mental Health. I love people.  Or, I used to. I have always had trust issues. But you don't need to trust people to sing and dance and make them laugh. I have always been great at the surface social interactions.  But letting someone get close, I have never been good at t
